American Express has increased the sign-up bonuses for Blue Cash Preferred and Blue Cash Everyday cards by $50 each. Now, new Blue Cash Preferred cardholders can earn $200 cash back after spending $1,000 in the first three months, and new Blue Cash Everyday cardholders earn $150 after spending $1,000 in the first three months. See the other card changes in the charts below.

Blue Cash Preferred card changes

As you can see, the Preferred card ended its limited-time annual fee promotion, which offered the first year of card membership for free. However, the $50 sign-up bonus increase along with not charging an interest rate on purchases or balance transfers during the first year can help offset the $95-annual fee.

Blue Cash Everyday card changes

In addition to continuing to offer no annual fee, the Blue Cash Everyday card now offers a $150 sign-up bonus. The card also increased its 0 percent introductory APR period to 15 months on purchases and balance transfers – a long time period for a cash back card.

Along with a higher sign-up bonus, the Blue Cash Preferred card offers a higher rewards rate than that of the Blue Cash Everyday card – which may make the Preferred card seem like the obvious choice.

But, since the Preferred card includes a $95 annual fee, you may be wondering: Is the Preferred card really the best value? Check out our side-by-side comparison below to see for yourself.

Comparing Blue Cash Preferred and Everyday cards

  • 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in purchases per year, then 1%)
  • 2% cash back at U.S. gas stations and select department stores
  • 1% cash back on general purchases
  • Terms apply
  • 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in purchases per year, then 1%)
  • 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations and select department stores
  • 1% cash back on general purchases
  • Terms apply

Even with its high annual fee, we believe that the Preferred card offers a better value over the Everyday card.

Based on an average consumer’s spending on gas, groceries and department stores, we estimate that you can earn $504 of cash back on $15,900 of spend with the Blue Cash Preferred card in the first year. This takes into account the annual fee, the $200 sign-up bonus and cash back earned in all spending categories.

With its smaller sign-up bonus and half as much cash back on grocery purchases, the Blue Cash Everyday card’s average earnings add up to $411 in the first year – that’s $93 less than the Preferred card’s earnings.

Once you’ve completed the first year of card membership, the difference in value between the two cards is closer, but the Preferred card still wins. Without the benefit of the sign-up bonuses, the Preferred card offers $304 of value on average, while the Everyday card only offers $261 – a difference of $43.

For the majority of cardholders who are committed to using the card, the $95 annual fee for the Blue Cash Preferred card is worth it – both in the short and long term.

Best Current Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses & Offers For March, 2018

A list of the best current credit card sign up bonuses & offers for March, 2018. We update this page on a daily basis with any new deals and include all bonuses (we don’t use any credit card affiliate links so we can remain unbiased unlike other sites).

Given how popular our best bank account bonus page is, I thought I’d try my hand at something similar for credit card bonuses. This page will be updated regularly, so feel free to bookmark it and share it on social media/forums (I’ll also add it to the header under credit cards to make it easily accessible). Keep in mind we do not use credit card affiliate links, so this is an unbiased list.

A few final thoughts before we get to this list:

  • There will be a random amount of entries on this list at any one time dependent on how many cards I currently think are worth signing up for.
  • I’ll be taking into account whether a bonus is at it’s highest level ever or not (mostly because I don’t think an offer is truly the best if it regularly goes up to a higher level or I suspect it’ll go to a higher level in the near future).
  • I won’t be taking into account special application rules (e.g Chase 5/24 rule or American Express once per lifetime rule), but I will mention them clearly.
  • If there is a card that is popular and I haven’t included, I’ll put it under “Not On The List” and explain my reasons why.

Keep in mind that having a clear goal will help you decide what the best cards for you are! If you don’t want to travel and just want to earn cash back, then the best card for you will be different than somebody that wants to fly first class to Paris and stay in 5 star accommodation.

These cards are listed in order from absolute best to best (e.g the better cards are at the top).

Wells Fargo Propel World 40,000 Points In Branch Or Phone

This card isn’t available online anymore and I can’t see it being available in branch for too much longer either. Card also comes with $100 in travel reimbursements each year and the annual fee of $175 is waived the first year as well. Points are worth 1¢ each so this bonus is worth $400 + the $100 in travel reimbursements. We’ve put this card is #1 as it seems likely it will become unavailable after March 31st, 2018.

Not everybody is able to get this offer to show, but if you are then it’s a great offer. Just keep in mind it does have a massive $550 annual fee, but for that you get good lounge access, $200 in airline incidentals per calendar year (so you can get it twice and only pay the annual fee once) and $200 in Uber credits per card member year as well. Obviously not for everybody, but if you can maximize those airline incidentals then this is a really great offer. There is also an upgrade offer of 60,000 points without the lifetime language, unfortunately that is targeted.

Citi American Airlines 60,000 Miles (Get Matched To 75,000 Miles)

60,000 miles is basically the standard bonus on this card at this stage. The real beauty of this offer is that they are accepting matches to a 75,000 mile bonus when you ask.

Chase In Branch Offers (Freedom & Freedom Unlimited 30,000 Points & Sapphire Preferred/Reserve 60,000 Points)

This is actually four different offers. A bonus of 30,000 points on the Chase Freedom & Freedom Unlimited cards and a bonus of 60,000 points on Chase Sapphire Preferred & Reserve cards. These offers are only available in branch (should show up when asking for a pre-approval and pre-approved offers also bypass 5/24 rule). The normal bonus on the Freedom & Freedom Unlimited is only 15,000 points and on the Preferred & Reserve it’s 50,000.

American Express Mercedes-Benz Platinum – 60,000 Points

We’ve actually seen a higher bonus of 75,000 points on this card before and as mentioned above you can get the 100,000 point bonus on the “vanilla” platinum. The reason this card is worth considering is that it will be discontinued in 2019 and American Express has the one bonus per card per lifetime rule, so good to get this card before it disappears.

Citi ThankYou Premier – 50,000 Points

Citi has been cutting back how often sign up bonuses are offered on their ThankYou point earning cards, this is usually as high as the bonus gets on this card. Some people might prefer to wait for the 75,000 point offer on the Citi Prestige due to the 24 month rule, but that isn’t being currently offered and isn’t clear when (or if) it will return. We discuss what the better option is for you in this detailed post.

Banco Popular Avianca Vuela – 60,000 Miles

Nice thing about this bonus and card is the sign up bonus is triggered after a single purchase. The downside is that the annual fee of $149 is not waived first year. Still a great offer and Avianca has some good deals on flights as well.

Bank of America Premium Rewards 50,000 Points + $100 Travel Credit

Card comes with a 50,000 point sign up bonus worth $500 towards statement credit. In addition you get a $100 travel credit each calendar year, downside is that this can only be used on domestic originated flights (not sure how or if this is actually enforced yet) and a $95 annual fee.

Chase Southwest Plus/Premier 50,000 Points

If you get one of these cards and the business card with 60,000 points you’ll have earned 110,000 within a calendar year. Enough for the extremely valuable companion pass. We have seen bonuses of 60,0000 points on these cards, but this is the best time of year to get the companion pass so it’s hard to complain with that value.

Bank of America Alaska Airlines 30,000 Miles + $100 Statement Credit

The real value here is the fact that Bank of America allows you to combine inquiries. That means you can pair this bonus with another Bank of America card (or two) and only receive the single hard pull.

Chase Hyatt 40,000 Points + $50 Statement Credit

Standard bonus is now 40,000 points but you can get an extra $50 statement credit by doing a dummy booking.

Barclaycard Wyndham – 45,000 Points

This is enough for three free nights at any Wyndham property.

AmEx EveryDay 25,000 Points + 0% APY For 15 Months With $0 BT Fee

Standard bonus is 10,000 points. We’ve seen the 25,000 point offer via incognito mode for some time but the 0% APY + $0 BT fee offer is new. Could be using for floating money to put into a high yield savings account.

City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite 50,000 Point Sign Up Bonus

Annual fee on this card is no longer waived, but the 50,000 bonus is really only the start. The real bonus is being able to add up to three authorized users for free. They, along with the primary cardholder get an annual travel credit of $250 (per calendar year). That’s basically $1,000 in travel credits per calendar year.

American Express Delta Platinum – 70,000 Miles + $100 Statement Credit + 10,000 MQM

This is the highest bonus we’ve seen on this card. It’ll be more attractive for those who can use the MQM, but still a good card overall. Make sure you have plans for your Delta miles as they are known for stealth devaluations as they no longer publish an award chart. There is also a business version of this card offering the same bonus.

Discover it – $50 + Double Cash Back

The sign up bonus on this card is low ($50 when you use a referral) but the real bonus is that after the first year you get your cash back doubled for that year (not including the $50 referral bonus). This card has 5% rotating categories (up to $1,500 in spend per quarter), this means you’ll get 10% cash back on those categories. This card really only makes sense if you’ll be able to max out those categories at least some of the time.

U.S. Bank FlexPerks Gold American Express – 30,000 Points

Relatively new card, points are worth $300 in cash or up to $450 in airfare/hotels so some good value to be had here with a nice fallback cash redemption option as well. Annual fee of $85 is not waived in the first year, but it does also earn 3x points for restaurant purchases.

PenFed Pathfinder Rewards American Express – 25,000 Points

Not the biggest bonus, but it does come with a $100 annual travel credit statement and there is no annual fee so there should be good long term value to keeping this card.

Chase Disney $200 Statement Credit

Definitely the smallest bonus on this list, but when you use a referral link the person’s link you use also receives a $100 Disney gift card. Usually this bonus is a $200 Disney gift card and the person referring you receives a $50 gift card, so significantly better than normal. It’s also not subject to the Chase 5/24 rule.

American Express SPG Business 35,000 Points

SPG points are extremely valuable and this is as high as this bonus goes, standard bonus is only 25,000 points.

American Express Business Platinum 100,000 Points

This is a super old way to get this bonus and it doesn’t work for everybody but this is basically as good as it gets for this card apart from high spend targeted offers.

American Express Business Gold Rewards 75,000 Points

Similar to the above offer this requires calling in to receive it. 25,000 points more than the standard bonus on this card but does require an additional $5,000 in spend.

Chase Ink Preferred – 100,000 Points

Chase Southwest Business Premier – 60,000 Points

Really good card and offer. It is better when the personal cards have the 60,000 points as well that way you have enough Southwest points for the companion pass. Chase 5/24 rule does apply to this card and the personal cards, so it’ll be extremely difficult for most people to get the two bonuses required for this bonus.

Wells Fargo Business Platinum $500

Nice bonus and shouldn’t affect your eligibility for a personal Wells Fargo card. Looks like you need to have had a checking account open with them for at least 12 months to be able to successfully apply though.

Citi American Airlines 60,000 Miles (Get Matched To 75,000 Miles)

Similar to the personal bonus. Again the real beauty of these offers is the ability to get matched to the 75,000 mile offers

Chase Marriott Business Premier 75,000 Points

Annual fee of $99 is waived which is what makes this the killer deal. It’s also not clear how much longer this card will be offered for.

American Express Business Delta Platinum – 70,000 Miles + $100 Statement Credit + 10,000 MQM

I thought it would be useful to list when and why I make changes here.

I’m looking forward to the comments on this one, what do you think I’ve gotten wrong? What should be higher and what should be lower? What missed out and what should be removed from the list all together?

*The $200 cash bonus offer for the Barclaycard CashForward TM card has expired. We will update when a new offer becomes available.

The Barclaycard CashForward TM World MasterCard ® has an updated offer where you can now earn a $200 cash bonus after spending $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days after account opening.

A $200 bonus is one of the best around for a card with no annual fee. The ongoing cash back earning potential of this card is also fairly good, but not the best.

MoneysMyLife readers love earning bonus money, and this card is definitely worth mentioning.

We’ll review the card bonus below.

Barclaycard CashForward TM Card $200 Bonus

Spend $1,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening to earn the $200 bonus.

On top off a good bonus offer, the Barclaycard CashForward TM World MasterCard ® also earns a respectable 1.5% cash back rewards rate. Plus, when you redeem, you’ll receive a 5% bonus that can be used towards your next cash back redemption. In terms of straight cash back, cards like the Citi Double Cash and Fidelity ® Investment Rewards ® American Express ® Card both will earn a higher 2% rate. Those two competitors don’t offer a sign-up bonus though.

Because the CashForward TM card gives you a 5% bonus with each redemption, it earns better than the 1.5% flat rate with the Capital One ® QuickSilver ® Cash Rewards card.

We like that you have the option of redeeming via deposits into your bank account, as statement credits, or as gift cards, and the redemption rate will be the same.

One thing to keep in mind, this isn’t a good card for traveling outside of the United States, as you’ll get hit with a 3% foreign transaction fee on purchases abroad.

Because there’s no annual fee and the 1.5% rate is good on all purchases (regardless of purchase categories) with the Barclaycard CashForward TM World MasterCard ® , it’s a solid option for an ongoing use credit card. The ongoing 5% bonus towards your next redemption is a great little extra perk that effectively gives you a rate anywhere between 1.51% and 1.57%.

While $1,000 in purchases within 90 days of account opening isn’t much to ask, if you’re applying for multiple card bonuses and need ideas on how to meet the minimum spending requirements, see our guide here.

The guide includes popular ways of meeting the spending requirements, including:

  • Funding opening deposits with credit cards for bank bonuses. We write a lot about bank promotions here at MoneysMyLife, and many banks allow credit card funding towards the opening deposit. It’s a good way to meet the card spending requirements, while earning cash bonuses for Checking and Savings accounts. Read the details on credit funding here, and see current bank bonuses here.
  • Purchase gift cards with your credit card. Buying gift cards to your favorite stores and supermarkets is a great way to help meet the spending requirements, and these gift cards usually don’t have extra purchase fees. American Express and Visa Gift Cards offer flexibility, but will have purchase fees. Be sure to call customer service and set your Cash Advance limit to $0 before purchasing gift cards as issuers like Citi can often categorize gift card purchases as Cash Advances and charge a fee. See gift card ideas here.
  • Rent, Mortgage, Etc. Typically, your apartment rent and Mortgage payments need to be deducted directly from your Checking account. Many people don’t realize that there are 3rd party services that will help you make such payments using your credit card. Keep in mind, these services will collect a small percentage in fees. Read our guide for more details.
