How to get a American Express card number?

The vast majority of American Express credit card numbers start with 34, 37 and are 15-digit long, The credit card number must pass the Luhn Algorithm Check. Every American Express credit card has a specifically prefix like: 34 or 37.

How to recongize a Credit card?

  1. Brand mark: Always displayed in the bottom right, top left or top right corner.
  2. Account number: Includes a six-digit Issuer Identification Number (IIN), the first digit of which is the Major Industry Identifier (MII), a variable length (up to 12 digits) individual account identifier and so on.
  3. BIN number: It is the issuer's Bank Identification Number (BIN).
  4. Member since: It is the date when the account was open.
  5. Expiration date: It is a date when the card becomes invalid, Date format is "mm/yy."
  6. Cardholder name: The owner of the Credit card.
  7. Micro-chip: Some cards has a chip like this.
  8. Dove hologram: The Visa dove hologram will chang color when you rotate card.
  9. Vertical orientation: Some Visa cards are vertically oriented.
  10. Mini-card: Another version of card of Visa or Visa Electron.
  11. Magnetic stripe: It contains the card account's identifying information like other card. It will be use in point-of-sale (POS) terminal, ATM.
  12. Signature panel: It is on the back of the card, the panel may feature the full account number printed on it.
  13. Card Verification Value 2 (CVV2): CVV2 is used to verify that the customer is in possession of the card.

How do I pay my bill by direct debit?

By Direct Debit

If you are an International Currency Corporate Card Cardmember and your Card number begins 37439 or 37459 please call +44 (0) 1273 868 900 to request a copy of the appropriate form.

For Cards in euro beginning 3743:

SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) Direct Debit is available for Euro Cardmembers that hold bank accounts in one of the 32 SEPA countries (27 EU Member States + Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland & Monaco).

If you hold personal bank account in one of the European SEPA countries you are able to settle your American Express International Euro Card account using SEPA Direct Debit.

Please complete the SEPA Direct Debit Mandate and return it to American Express.

Please note: set up of SEPA Direct Debit may take between 2-3 weeks.

For Cards in US dollar beginning 3745:

ACH (Automated Clearing House) Direct Debit is available for US bank account holders with a US Dollar Card.If you hold US bank account in the United States you are able to settle your American Express International US Dollar Card account using ACH Direct Debit.

Please complete the ACH Direct Debit Authorisation Form and return it to American Express.

Please note: set up of the ACH Debit Authorisation may take between 2-3 weeks.

How do I pay my bill by cheque?

If your Card number begins 3743 or 3745 please include the bank account number on the front of the cheque. Please make cheques payable to American Express Services Europe Ltd.

For Cards in US dollar beginning 3745:

Please send a US dollar cheque with the remittance advice slip in the envelope provided to:

Can I manage my US Dollar or Euro Charge Card account online?

Yes, you can register for online Card account access. This gives you control to manage your American Express Card Account(s), all at the click of a mouse, wherever you are, whenever you want. Registration is simple and free.

If I need a statement copy what do I do?

Simply register for Online Card Account access where you can access your Card account information including current and old statements in seconds. Alternatively, please call Customer Services number on the back of your Card and request copies of statements for the months you require.

If I dispute a charge what do I do?

You must call Customer Services immediately upon receiving your statement and discuss this with a representative. They will be able to provide you with more details of this charge. If this does not clarify the matter we will investigate this and provide copies of the charge. American Express is only able to do this if we are informed immediately of the situation. We cannot do this after any lapse of time.

Can I register more than one Personal US Dollar or Euro Charge Card online?

If you have more than one Personal Card account (e.g. US Dollar and Euro) you need to register all of these Cards under two different User IDs. Where can I change my PIN?

Once your PIN is issued you will not be able to change your PIN unless you visit the UK, where you can use UK LINK ATMs that offer PIN Management services.

What should I do if I forget my PIN?

With Online Services you can view your PIN securely and instantly online - at any time of the day or night. Simply log in or Register for Online Services to view your PIN online. Alternatively contact the Customer Services number on the reverse of your Card to be sent a PIN reminder in the post.

What happens if my Card is lost or stolen?

Please call American Express immediately day or night on +44 (0) 1273 868 900 (for US Dollar Cardmembers) and +44 (0) 1273 576 530 (for Euro Cardmembers). We will issue a replacement usually within 48 hours.

Chip & PIN cards - all you need to know

The PIN code is a 4 to 6-digit identification number. The PIN code is entered at the terminal instead of signing when paying.

Your Chip & PIN card is suitable for all payment types

  • Enter your PIN code when you are requested to*
  • Sign a receipt if you do not have to enter your PIN code
  • There are also terminals where you can pay without entering your PIN code or signing a receipt, e.g. when entering and exiting car parks, or when filling up your car at a gas station

How to use your Chip & PIN card safely:

  • Sign the back of your new Chip & PIN card immediately
  • Do not throw your card receipts away where they could be accessible to anyone else

How to use your PIN code safely

  • You will receive the PIN code for your new card by separate mail
  • Keep your PIN code and credit card separate at all times
