Credit score for amex gold

What credit score is needed for American Express? For American Express your credit score needs to be good to excellent to be approved for a card. Below is a list of offers from our Advertiser; American Express.

A credit score is a number generally between 300-850, based on a statistical analysis of a person's credit files. This score represents the credit worthiness of a person. A credit score is assigned to each individual, to rate how risky a borrower he or she is--the higher the score, the less risk the individual poses to creditors. In most cases, your credit score will determine whether you will be approved for a credit card.

  1. Credit Scores range from 300-850, the higher the better.
  2. Most lenders base approval on your credit score.
  3. Higher Scores mean lower payments and better deals.
  4. Higher Scores mean Lower interest rates.
  5. Scores are determined by 5 main categories:
    • Payment History
    • Amounts Owed
    • Length of Credit History
    • Type of Credit Used
    • New Credit

Note: Credit scores are used to represent the creditworthiness of a person and may be one indicator to the credit type you are eligible for. However, credit score alone does not guarantee or imply approval for any credit card product.

Re: approved for gold Amex Card- No credit limit.

Well, there is a hidden credit limit but the limit is not reported. To check the max you can spend, you can go online into your account and use the "check your spending" button to see how much you can spend. Just put in a low number (about 300) and check. Then if you are approve to spend that much, enter a higher number until it says no. Then you will have an idea of what your limit is.

Re: approved for gold Amex Card- No credit limit.

Congrats on the approval. I actually just got a pre-approval letter for the same exact card from Amex just today, but I think they screwed up. No way, will I be qualified for an amex gold. I have way too many inquiries on EX and have unpaid collections.

Rebuilding in Progress.

Re: approved for gold Amex Card- No credit limit.

actually if you want to find out how much amex will let you spend you should call customer service once you receive the card and ask to be transfered over to the account services dept. and they will tell you how much will be approved until they get familiar with your account activity. it could be as low as 500 or sky might be the limit for you who knows

Re: approved for gold Amex Card- No credit limit.

How does not having a credit limit affect my credit report.

Welcome to the world of an Amex charge card! I have a Green and love it. And while we all have to pay in full every month, the benefits are great, and from personal experience, the habit I developed of PIF transcended all cards and helped with overall util.

Per FICO scoring, the balance and the "high balance" are ignored for util and scoring purposes on almost all FICO scoring models. So, your EQ score from here, for example, will be unaffected by the util of that card. However, TU98, which is the version of TU FICO score as pulled from here, does factor in your Amex's balance and "high balance". So, the first month that this card reports, it'll effectively be maxed out if the balance and high balance are the same. Next month, if you get a lower balance to report, then the prev. high balance and current balance is used and then your util on that card improves. If you ever go for a mortgage in the future, know that your future lender likely won't use that TU98 model and therefore the balance won't be of a concern. I'm home hunting now and my lender totally ignored my Amex TL.

With regards to reporting, my payment is due at the last day of the month and the statement doesn't cut until the following month around the 15th. I just make sure my balance is low by the 15th if TU98 and FICO scoring is a concern.

ETA. ditto to Achase. You do have a magical, unreported CL with Amex. Mine also was $500 to start. The CSR said when I first got the card that the limit with them will increase 1.5 times based on spending. I think it was more. I started with $500 in September last year and by Christmas I was putting over $2500/mo on it. I got capped with a $7000 unreported limit after being FR'd, but my budget is $6000/mo and I put every dime of that on that card.

Amex really gives you a chance

I applied for this card about 5 months ago when my credit scores were not good. I was very lucky to get approved because I had low approval odds. This card is a charge card so treat it just like a debit card with the exception of paying your balances in a month time. Be EXTREMELY RESPONSIBLE because Amex gives you an open spending limit. Your credit utilization ratio doesn’t affect your credit scores while you use this card but instead focus on making sure you pay the full amount of your balances every month. Overall I am very satisfied with this card. Definitely recommend it!

Good card but get a better one.

This card is good. Airline credit pays for a portion of your annual fee. However, the Chase Sapphire card is in fierce competition with this card and the rewards and points far outweighs the AmEx card and reward system.

And, I forgot to mention the Sapphire card is beautiful and lower annual fee! Please check it out before applying for this card! Trust me. I have both. I will be canceling this card once my first year is over. :)

These reviews were written by current and former cardholders in the last year.

First off, this is yet another great card from AMEX. I went from Green to Gold only for the membership points offer. Otherwise, I was perfectly happy with Green. The personal service and responsiveness of their support people is tops by far over any other card company I deal with. What I can't believe is that, in this day and age, some people blame the company with 1 star reviews because they didn't educate themselves on what they were getting. Who doesn't know that the classic AMEX cards aren't revolving credit cards?? They have always been charge cards and have to be paid off every month. Also, they tell you the annual fee and potential benefits BEFORE you get it. Why are you complaining that &;It's not worth it' AFTER you get it? A responsible consumer makes sure they will actually use a card to get the benefits. If you won't? Don't get that card. How simple is that? And the whole idea that AMEX customer service is bad is absurd. Okay, end of rant. If you charge significant amounts and pay off your balances every month, this is an excellent choice. The reward points pile up for this Amazon shopper. If not, don't just get it because the color is cool.

Preach. I've been with Amex for awhile now. "IT'S A GREAT CARD TO HAVE IN YOUR WALLET"! If you're responsible and use it correctly? Their customer service is fantastic!

Put me on hold forever, then just said they can’t do anything for me.

So far, I think it is a great card.

I have had this card for a while now and I read about the customer service being poor but I have contacted them through chat several times and they have always been very patient with me as I asked questions about the card and they have always been very helpful and informed. Other than the card not being accepted at a couple of places, I see no detriment to having or using it. As long as you are responsible with your payments and do not think 195 dollars a year which over a year is too much which over that time is not even noticed, it is a great card to have. I use it more like a debit card that gives me points for spending the same money I would spend with the debit card so worth it I believe not to mention when they were added to my credit score, it jumped up 71 points. Not sure if it was the card specifically but still, for someone fairly new to using credit, I see nothing bad about it. Check it out before you judge by others comments.

Looks amazing in your wallet

Not worth the annual fee and customer service is very poor. Instead of helping the customers, they just say there's nothing they can do. LOL

Originally I was denied, I called in and they said that the address on my credit profile didn't match the one on my credit application. We called the bank on 3-way and straightened that out and was approved instantly. I just received this card and have spent roughly $6K on it in the first couple months. When I first got the card, the "spending power" was over $10K. As soon as I hit minimum spend (about $3500) to receive the welcome offer points, things got weird. I got an email saying I was near my threshold. I called in and they said they can't see any record of my cards threshold anywhere near $10K and it was $3500. So we got my bank on on the line and I paid the balance off in full instantly. The AMEX rep stated the threshold jumped back up to $8K. Then a week later, I had a balance of $2K and got another warning email that the card was about to be suspended. Called in and they said now my threshold was $2400. They got my bank on the line and I paid it off again.

It seems that for at least new users the spending power fluctuates daily and each time you call in they claim they can't see the higher spending power. I'm regretting not just applying for the Platinum card, I don't the spending power would have the same issues. I was told by an AMEX rep to ramp the spending power up by making several thousand in charges, then paying it off weekly. That would work, but as soon as I would stop spending thousands a week on it, the threshold would come crashing back down. I plan to upgrade to platinum at the 13-month mark or just cancel this one and apply for platinum instead. This card is a lot of hassle with wanting to call your bank a lot.

My odds we're poor for this card and the AMEX Platinum card. Approved for both in the same day. My credit karma scores are mid 650s. I'm sure being a joint owner on my ex husband's card since 2013 had a lot to do with my approval. I should also not that I have over 25 inquires on my report in the last year. My husband used to drop $10,000+ on his Platinum and gold cards due to his business. We also received plenty of rewards and AMEX has always been good to us. Hence, the five stars.

This cards benefits outweigh the $195 annual fee anyday. To start anything you buy has a "insurance9quot; policy on it for the first 90 days to protect against accidental damage, theft, even loss. That alone is just amazing. then the $100 annual airline credit which pays part of the annual fee. They gave me a pay of time limit of 40k w/ low interest. Great card overall. Will always have in my wallet, might even upgrade to platinum. hmmmmm

This card is better for day to day spending and special bonus offers. I earned 22k points (worth $264 on Delta) just from special offers alone in 2017
